![]() Information doesn’t want to be free – as Stewart Brand put it in the 1980s – but it does often require a lot of effort to select the things to keep close, to guard and administer them, and, eventually, to thin out the stock of secrets and let some of them loose. A secret is a bit of knowledge that certain people know and certain others are intended not to know. W hat is the opposite of a secret? It can’t be something that everybody knows, since there’s nothing that’s known to everyone and all secrets are known to somebody. ![]() ![]() He who would keep a secret must keep it a secret that he hath a secret to keep.
